The hotel
Venice's most storied address on the lagoon
The Danieli is not a hotel that borrowed a palace. It is the palace — Palazzo Dandolo, built in the 14th century for one of the dynasties that gave Venice its doges, and opened to travellers in 1822 by a hotelier from Friuli named Giuseppe Dal Niel. Guests shortened his name to Danieli, and it stuck.
Two more palaces were later joined to the original by bridges: the 19th-century Palazzo Casa Nuova and Palazzo Danieli Excelsior. Together they occupy the stretch of waterfront between the Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs — a position no other hotel in the city can claim.
After a restoration led by French designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, the hotel returns on 26 August 2026 under Four Seasons management, with 120 rooms and suites, a rooftop restaurant, and interiors rebuilt around Murano glass, Rubelli fabrics, Venetian terrazzo and Italian marble.

From Marco Polo Airport, a private water taxi reaches the hotel's own water entrance in roughly 30 minutes. The shared Alilaguna service to San Zaccaria takes about 75 minutes and stops a short walk away. Cars cannot reach the hotel — Venice has no road access to the historic centre.
Danieli Spa opens in late 2026 with three treatment rooms — one designed for couples — plus a sauna and hammam. Wellness facilities form part of the second phase of the restoration, so confirm current availability when booking.
Check-in is normally from 15:00 and check-out by 12:00. Early arrival and late departure can often be arranged subject to availability — request it at the time of booking.

Late April to June and September to October bring mild weather and long light. November through February is quieter and atmospheric, though acqua alta can raise water levels along the Riva. July and August are hot and busy, but the rooftop terrace comes into its own.
